The Review Process

First-Time Playthroughs

My reviews encompass a blend of first-time playthroughs and those of games I have previously completed. Nevertheless, impartiality remains my guiding principle in evaluating both novel and familiar gaming experiences.

Platforms

I conduct comprehensive game reviews on multiple platforms, encompassing Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft consoles, and PC. My approach to selecting the review platform is methodical. Generally, I opt for the latest version of Xbox for multi-platform and Microsoft exclusive games, the newest Playstation console for Sony exclusives, the latest Nintendo device for Nintendo exclusives, and my gaming rig for Windows exclusive games. It is worth noting that I review each game solely on one platform, ensuring a fair and consistent assessment.

Difficulty

Although I tend to favor playing games on the most challenging difficulty for achievement/trophy completion, I conduct reviews based on the standard/normal difficulty setting. The rationale behind this approach lies in the varying quality of games across different difficulty modes. To maintain objectivity without the need to explore every offered difficulty level in each game, I assess them primarily based on their standard/normal modes.

Completion Percentage

In the games I review, completion percentage lacks a standardized measure. My approach involves diligently progressing through each game while my enjoyment persists, striving to complete as much content as possible within that context.

Categories

In my reviews, I employ a well-defined framework of categories and sub-categories to evaluate each game. While certain aspects, such as ‘Story,’ will be universally considered, others will be tailored to the specific attributes of each game. The inherent diversity in game genres and ages necessitates the use of distinct criteria, ensuring that my assessments remain precise and avoid overly generalized reviews.

Rating System

Employing a distinctive 10-point rating system, I assess various categories of the games I play. My evaluation process involves assigning scores to individual sub-categories, subsequently averaging them to determine the value for each category. Finally, the category scores are averaged to derive the overall game score. It is worth noting that my ratings diverge from conventional norms. For instance, in my system, a value of 5 denotes an average rating, rather than being considered below average. The comprehensive scale is as follows:

ValueRating
10Masterpiece
9Top Tier
8Great
7Good
6Worthwhile
5Decent
4Mediocre
3Bad
2Terrible
1Unplayable
